Meet Simon, Greenprint 2020 Youth Volunteering Assistant.

Name?

Simon Howlett.

Job title and description?

Youth Volunteering Assistant.

I organise Operation Blackout projects around the country; which involves having our volunteers audit buildings that leave their lights on at night. We then use the gathered information to change the behaviour of the building's staff so that they switch lights off!

Plus I tackle the social media Facebook/ Twitter side of things and manage the volunteer database.

What were you doing before Global Action Plan?

I was a volunteer and part of the Greenprint 2020 Steering Group.  I was also volunteering with the UK Youth Climate Coalition, Richmond Environment Network and interning at the Fairtrade Foundation.

What do you love about Global Action Plan?

The fact that Global Action Plan promotes the simple things you can do to make a big difference.

Top green tip?

A tea bag can be used to make 3 cups of tea, not just one.

Remember each tea bag has travelled around the world before reaching your mug and its carbon footprint increases when you add sugar, milk and boiling water, so we need to be mindful of this.

What do you do on a Sunday morning?

I have a bit of a lie-in, but I don’t like being too lazy - so I might go for a walk, catch up on volunteer stuff or watch a movie.

Favourite biscuit?

Chocolate Digestive.
