Environmental IT Leadership Team

The new EILT ‘Green ICT' website has launched: www.greenict.org.uk.

The Environmental IT Leadership Team (EILT) is a unique panel of major ICT users from a range of different sectors who are committed to taking practical action to cut carbon dioxide emissions from the ICT sector.

The aim of the Environmental IT Leadership Team is to create an independent expert user group focused solely on exploring and publishing best practice sustainable IT strategies. The group will question political, industry, technology and expert witnesses and have the power to commission independent research into specific areas of concern such as the data centre, information growth and legislation.

The EILT maintains its independence as a strictly user-only group in order to progress environmental issues in the ICT sector from a vendor neutral, impartial viewpoint.

Global Action Plan's Director Trewin Restorick chairs the EILT. Global Action Plan is an independent non-governmental charity that has worked with around 70 large organisations and hundreds of SMEs to bring about environmental savings through a mixture of behavioural change and technological fixes.

An Inefficient Truth is the first research report produced by Global Action Plan on behalf of the Environmental IT Leadership Team.  The Leadership Team is a unique gathering of major ICT users from a range of different sectors who are committed to taking practical action to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

The report assess the environmental impact of the ICT sector which is virtually the equivalent of the aviation industry, illustrates practical solutions through case studies and sets out some of the challenges facing Government, vendors and users in order to move the sector towards a lower carbon future.

An Inefficient Truth is the first part of a longer journey which will see Global Action Plan using its position as an independent practical environmental charity to help cut carbon emissions from the ICT sector.
