Case study: Bite Communications

Bite Communications was founded in London in 1995 specialising in public relations solutions.

Background

The business has grown to become a global consultancy employing around 200 people with offices in London and in 11 cities across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Bite Communications selected Global Action Plan to work with to address environmental and sustainability issues.

Key savings and achievements

  • £1500 and 4.7 tonnes of CO2 have been saved annually through energy saving measures such as fitting timers to vending machines and water coolers.
  • 46% increase in the waste that is recycled instead of going to landfill.
  • The company is currently working towards Phase 3 of British Standard (BS) 8555 to implement a certified environmental management system.
  • Bite has moved to a renewable energy tariff that sources 40% of energy from renewable source to reduce their carbon footprint.
  • All paper used in the office is now 100% recycled.

Bite has evolved from a company that dabbled in paper recycling to an organisation fully invested in environmentally friendly and sustainable resources. It's also something that the whole company - on a global scale - has taken notice of and embraced. It's been a fun and rewarding process that is only set to continue. How did Global Action Plan help Bite achieve this?

An on-site review by our small business team helped to assess energy, water and resource use against good practice and identify where environmental and cost savings could most easily be achieved. We then supported Bite over a four month period as they worked on implementing changes.

Bite established an int staff Green Team that meets monthly to discuss new ideas and share out actions including staff events and awareness campaigns.

Activities already run include hosting a Green Week with themed days, carbon foot-printing competitions, and a film screening.
