Appetite for Action and Sky

Recognised by UNEP

GAP has worked with schools for many years and the programme is recognised by UNEP, however the nature of the support and resources the programmes required meant only dozens of schools a year were reached.

With Sky, GAP developed a national schools programme called Appetite for Action, building an online tool to take GAP’s tried and tested schools programme to a whole new audience.

A winning charity partnership

The programme was designed to get children to think about the environmental impact of the food they eat and what they throw away through a step-by-step interactive challenge with practical, hands-on activities such as composting, carrying out waste audits and growing fresh food to ‘green’ their own school dinners.

Sky has provided volunteering support for the schools, marketing support to disseminate the message and ‘money can’t buy’ experiences to drive sign-up to the programme.

In the first year, the winning school had the chance to feature on Sky News, and in the second year to feature in their own programme on Sky Real Lives TV. There are over 1800 schools registered.
